Designing strategies that change the board—not just the outcome.

Shannen Garza Hakim is a systems designer, social entrepreneur, and belonging advocate who partners with nonprofits, mission-driven businesses, and community organizations to build the strategies, systems, and partnerships that create lasting impact. With more than 15 years of experience spanning nonprofit leadership, education, workforce development, international exchange, entrepreneurship, fundraising, and organizational strategy, she helps organizations transform bold ideas into sustainable growth.

As the founder of Womxn on the Moon (WOTM), an award-winning jewelry brand rooted in belonging and cultural celebration, she’s grown a mission-driven business from local artisan markets to national retail platforms, including Amazon and Walmart. WOTM has been featured on Good Morning America and in the Houston Chronicle, and recognized through initiatives including Goldman Sachs' One Million Black Women, the Caress Dreams Fund, BeyGOOD's Black Parade Route, and Houston Equity Fund. Her experience growing a purpose-driven business gives her firsthand insight into balancing mission, creativity, and long-term sustainability.

Shannen holds a Master of Arts in Cross-Cultural Studies from the University of Houston–Clear Lake, a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of St. Thomas, and a Certificate in Diversity & Inclusion from Cornell University. Grounded in both research and lived experience, Shannen believes the most transformative organizations are those willing to imagine systems that don't yet exist—spaces where people experience genuine belonging and communities are empowered to thrive. Through strategy fueled by creative possibility, visual storytelling, emotionally intelligent operations, and strong foundational systems, she partners with leaders who are ready to challenge the status quo, dismantle systems that no longer serve their communities, and build organizations designed for the long game.

At the heart of Shannen's work is a simple belief: the systems many communities navigate today were never designed with them in mind. Rather than asking individuals to adapt to systems that exclude them, she partners with organizations willing to imagine what has not yet been built—creating spaces where belonging becomes infrastructure, where communities can fully live choice-filled lives, and where lasting change is achieved by strengthening the structural foundations that make bold visions possible. She’s committed to helping organizations play the long game by building systems that are equitable, resilient, and designed for generations to come.
